VIPR Solutions (VIPR), the leading AI-enabled technology platform for Delegated Authority intelligence, today highlighted that carriers, MGAs and TPAs face a critical 12-18 month window to demonstrate AI governance and audit-ready oversight as US program business surpasses $114 billion in direct premium written.
The findings are presented in a new White Paper - Artificial Intelligence in Program Business - examining how AI adoption, regulatory oversight and operational data quality are converging across the North American delegated authority ecosystem.
The launch comes as the US MGA market reaches unprecedented scale, with direct premium written hitting $114 billion in 2024, up 16% year-over-year and outperforming the broader P&C market for the fourth consecutive year. Meanwhile, premiums supported by fronting carriers rose 26% to $18 billion, and the US E&S market surpassed $100 billion in direct premium for the first time.
The paper also highlights the growing pressure on carriers, MGAs, TPAs and program administrators to modernize data infrastructure as regulators and rating agencies place greater emphasis on operational control within delegated authority models. 24 US states have already adopted the NAIC Model Bulletin on insurers’ use of AI, while New York DFS Circular Letter No. 7 and Colorado Regulation 10-1-1 are accelerating expectations around auditability, bias monitoring and human oversight.
Paul Templar, CEO of VIPR Solutions, said: “Program business in North America is growing at extraordinary speed, but the operational and regulatory expectations surrounding that growth are evolving just as quickly. AI creates enormous opportunities for the market, particularly around efficiency, exception handling and data intelligence, but only if firms have the right foundations in place first.
The reality is that most insurers are still dealing with fragmented bordereaux, inconsistent claims data and legacy workflows that were never designed for AI. Specialist insurance technology platforms with deep domain intelligence, regulatory logic and proprietary delegated authority data will become more valuable, not less, in the AI era.”
